Botev qualified for the Europa League

Botev (Plovdiv) will participate in the Europa League next season. The “Canaries” won Bulgaria’s only quota for the second strongest European tournament after winning the Bulgarian Cup final over Ludogorets with 3:2.

The European campaign of the “yellow and black” will start from the first qualifying round of the tournament, and most likely the first European matches of the team for the 24/25 season will be in the middle of July. The draw for the first qualifying round will be made in June.

With the success, the “canaries” also guaranteed themselves a minimum of 4 matches in Europe next year, since if they are relegated from the Europa League, the team will have their chance in the third strongest European club tournament – the Conference League.

Botev will also mark his return to the European stage. The previous participation of the people of Plovdiv in Europe was in the 2022/23 season after winning third place a year earlier.

Then Botev drew a difficult draw and after two serious battles with the Cypriot APOEL was eliminated from the second qualifying round of the Conference League. After the last Cup of Bulgaria in 2017, the “canaries” eliminated two teams in Europe – Partizani (Tirana) from Albania and Beitar (Jerusalem) from Israel before losing to the Portuguese Maritimo.

Botev’s return to European club tournaments will also happen in a season in which the club celebrates 40 years since the famous matches with Bayern Munich. In the 84/85 season, the “yellow and black” met the German colossus in the 1/8 final of the Cup Winners’ Cup. Botev lost the first match in Germany 1:4, but in the second leg in Plovdiv in front of more than 55,000 people in the stands of the stadium, Botev won 2:0 and made the Bavarians tremble until the last seconds.
