Botev will face HŠK Zrinjski Mostar in the III qualifier round of the UEFA Conference League

Botev (Plovdiv) will meet a familiar opponent in the third qualifying round of the Conference League. The Canaries will face Zrinjski Mostar from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first clash between the two teams is on August 8, Thursday, at the Hristo Botev Stadium, and the second leg – a week later at the Bijelim Brijegom Stadium in Mostar.

In the 2013/14 season, Botev and Zrinski met again in Europe. Then the clash between them was from the second qualifying round of the Europa League, and it was the Canaries who ended up the winners. In Bulgaria, at Lazur Stadium in Burgas, Botev won 2:0, while the match in Bosnia and Herzegovina ended 1:1, which sent the Bulgarian team forward in the tournament after a 3:1 aggregate score.

The clashes on August 8 and 15 also mark a confrontation between the winner of the Cup of Bulgaria and the winner of the Cup of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Last season, Zrinski triumphed with the Cup of his country for the third time in his history, and finished in second place in the championship.

So far in the Conference League, Botev’s upcoming opponent managed to eliminate the Slovenian NK Bravo. Zrinski lost the first leg at home 0-1 but won the second leg in Slovenia 3-1 to advance. At the moment, these are the team’s only official matches of the season, with the championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina starting next weekend.

Last season, Zrinjski also took part in the Conference League groups, where the team recorded a draw with Aston Villa and a win over AZ Alkmaar. In this way, the team became the first in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina to enter the groups of any of the European club tournaments.

The upcoming matches will be the 5th and 6th matches for Botev against the rivals from Mostar. In 1981, the Plovdiv team lost twice to Velež (Mostar) in the Balkan Cup final.

So far in Europe, Botev has a total of 80 matches, 29 wins, 17 draws and 34 losses with a goal difference of 134:127.
