Botev outplayed and defeated Rubin in Turkey

The team from Botev (Plovdiv) achieved a second consecutive victory from its preparatory camp in our southern neighbour. Dušan Kerkez’s players outplayed and deservedly defeated the elite Russian squad of Rubin (Kazan). The match was played on one of the grounds of the Kalista sports complex.

The match between the two teams started evenly, and in the 22nd minute, Martin Sekulic put the Canaries ahead in the result. Rubin’s keeper came out on a powerful forward ball, but did not clear well from the edge of the penalty area and it fell to Martin Sekulic, who without hesitation sent it into the net for 1-0.

In the second half, the game was tied again. The Botevists were more assertive in the first minutes. Dylan Mertens had a good chance in Rubin’s penalty area, but his shot was wide of the mark.

Strong minutes followed for Rubin (Kazan). The Russians were looking for the equalizer in the match, but the good performances of Stefan Smarkalev, who entered as a reserve, left no chance.

At the very end of the match, Rubin were down a man after a second yellow and, respectively, a red card for a player in green.

It was the second to last friendly meeting for the players in “yellow-black”. Our team goes out for a final challenge on Turkish soil on Saturday (03.02) at 12:00 against Dynamo (Moscow).
