Georgi Manolov – Bitcoin director of Botev (Plovdiv), visited El Salvador – the first country in the world to introduce Bitcoin as an official means of payment. He was warmly welcomed by the National Bitcoin Agency, where they discussed strategic opportunities between Botev as the first professional club to adopt the cryptocurrency and the Bitcoin country of El Salvador.
“Botev and El Salvador are Bitcoin pioneers – they at the state level, and we at the football level. We are both confident in the huge role Bitcoin will play in business and football. We discussed many projects, which we are already working to implement,” said Georgi Manolov.
In El Salvador, Bitcoin is legal tender, just like the lev is legal tender in Bulgaria. The state creates tax and legislative incentives for Bitcoin-focused organizations, which Botev aspires to be. Since the country adopted the neutral global cryptocurrency as a means of payment, the country has undergone a strong economic boom, attracting both investors and tourists, as well as Salvadorans who have long lived outside the country. As a public institution, Botev learns from the positive example of the Central American country, aiming to use Bitcoin for the long-term financial well-being of the club, as well as being a positive social influence in Plovdiv and Bulgaria.
On the other side, El Salvador is experiencing significant difficulties in developing the football environment there, which creates an opportunity for Botev (Plovdiv) to help with expertise.
