Botev Plovdiv suffered a 2:3 loss to CSKA in a match from the 2nd round of the First League. The match was played at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in the capital.
The “Canaries” may regret the missed points after outplaying their opponent in the first half and missing a bunch of chances.
In the second consecutive match, the “yellow-blacks” failed to capitalize on the opportunities created and lost valuable points in the standings.
The match was a repeat of the clash from the fall of last year, when the Plovdiv team lost in an identical way to the “reds” in Sofia.
In the 14th minute, Ebong’s shot went wide of Naumov’s goal, and in the 19th minute, Carlos Meotti’s shot hit the side post.
In the 21st minute, Chidera Okoh made an incredible pass after receiving the ball from the Reds’ defense, but, remaining face to face with the goalkeeper, he was unable to overcome it.
2 minutes later, Kalu’s shot was saved by Lapouhov. Botev’s stronger play gave the needed result in the 39th minute, after Carlos Algarra was the most prudent after a corner and scored for 0:1.
The joy of the “Canaries” was short-lived and in the 41st minute Joel Zwartz took advantage of a passive game in Botev’s defense and with a measured shot equalized – 1:1.
The second half started with an active game by the red team, who executed a huge number of set pieces, but Botev’s defense coped. Naumov reflected shots from Tsvarts and Jordao, and in the 75th minute Pereira shot over the goal.
In the 79th minute, Milanov’s powerful shot was saved by Lapouhov. In the 90th minute, Ioannis Pitas broke through from the left and passed to Zvarts, who scored from close range for 2:1.
2 minutes later, Ioannis Pittas was found in the penalty area and scored with a shot into the far corner for 3:1. A little later, in the 94th minute, Asen Chandarov intercepted a cross from a corner and fixed the final score.
